2012 Charity Calendar Launch
This year we are launching our Calendar at the Glenelg Art Gallery followed by an exhibition of the 13 canvasses used in the production of our Calendar.
Calendars will be available for sale on the night and throughout the exhibition, as will the canvasses hand painted by Adelaide Artist, Victoria Hazel.
Babies in Bloom 2012 Charity Calendar
Our Calendar for 2012 will again raise funds for the Childhood Cancer Association. The theme is Babies in Bloom and features newborn babies aged 0-14 days old in front of hand painted floral canvasses. Our theme “Babies in Bloom” would not have been possible without our very talented Adelaide Artist Victoria Hazel. Victoria is only 27 years old and has been painting since she was 16, when, in year 10, she was unable to get into any other classes and so picked art (although I think art picked her!). Victoria’s work is beautiful and not only unique but lovingly created with such care, forethought and attention to detail.
While working with us on our calendar Victoria spent days (and nights) designing each month’s new flower, matching appropriate colours with our little boys and our little girls. Endless hours where then spent creating our canvasses. Painting on short notice for babies born earlier than anticipated and painting non stop for a week in January due to a mini baby boom! Victoria has a fine talent, one worth talking about so spread the word & tell the world!
Our Chosen Charity
The Childhood Cancer Association was formed in 1982 and their commitment, work and support is via a range of services including: peer & family support, sibling support, free accommodation to country families, respite accommodation, financial assistance, educational assistance and bereavement services. The Association also provides funds for paediatric oncology research and clinical trials.
The Childhood Cancer Association receives no ongoing government funding and therefore relies heavily on the generous support of the community, to enable it to continue to provide vital services and support to families in need and research into finding a cure. Seven dedicated staff together with a team of more than 100 volunteers work all year round to support the association and the work it does.
The Childhood Cancer Association exists to provide emotional, social and financial support for children with cancer and their families, and to support initiatives that will improve clinical outcomes or the quality of life for children and young people with cancer.
The impact of childhood cancer on children and their families is incredible. It affects not only thechild but also their brothers and sisters, parents, grand parents, friends, the whole community.
